Cop
The Conference of the Parties (COP) is the annual meeting of countries that are members of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). During these meetings, governments, international organizations, scientists, businesses, and civil society representatives come together to review progress, negotiate new climate policies, and strengthen global cooperation to address climate change.
Each COP builds on previous decisions and helps shape international efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, increase climate resilience, mobilize climate finance, and support sustainable development. Many important agreements, including the Paris Agreement, were negotiated and adopted during COP meetings.
For Afghanistan, COP provides opportunities to participate in international climate discussions, share national priorities, access technical assistance and climate finance, strengthen adaptation efforts, and collaborate with development partners. Decisions made at COP influence national climate planning, environmental policies, and future climate action.
This section provides an overview of the COP process, highlights key decisions from recent conferences, and explains their relevance to Afghanistan.
