UNFCCC
The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) is the main international agreement that provides the foundation for global efforts to address climate change. Established in 1992, it brings countries together to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, strengthen climate adaptation, and support cooperation on climate action.
The UNFCCC oversees international climate negotiations, including the annual Conference of the Parties (COP) meetings, where countries discuss progress, commitments, and solutions to climate challenges.
For Afghanistan, the UNFCCC provides an important platform for participating in global climate discussions, accessing technical and financial support, preparing climate reports, and strengthening national policies related to adaptation, mitigation, and resilience.
Key areas connected to the UNFCCC include Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), National Adaptation Plans (NAPs), climate reporting, technology transfer, capacity building, and access to climate finance mechanisms.
